Alarm System Back-up

As well as reporting all alarm events to the base at HIR Security, the alarm system in your home is designed to send a signal once every twenty-four hours to confirm that it is operational.  This verification is an integral part of the HIR Security System defined in the By-laws.

In the rare event of an outage of the Resort Intercom system, or if it is congested when the daily verification signal is scheduled to be sent, your alarm system is designed to "fail over" to the public phone line in your home (Telstra, Optus etc). While all communication over the Resort Intercom system is at no charge, if the link is congested and the call "fails over" to the public phone line, such calls will appear on your telephone service provider's invoice, charged as a local call.

There is an increasing trend in the community not to subscribe to a fixed public phone line service. In such cases, if there is an outage on the Resort Intercom system or congestion on the link, the alarm system will not be able to send the daily verification signal to HIR Security. Your home insurance policies may be affected if this happens.

In the event that you do not have a fixed public phone line you can overcome the problem of a local power outage by installing a UPS (Universal Power Supply), which will ensure that your alarm system back-up continues to operate.

To this end, the PBC has sourced a firm quote to install a UPS device certified to fit current equipment, suitable for all homes at HIR for $320.00 including GST.

Please call Comverge Networks on (07) 5665-6096 if you would like to proceed with fitting this option to the Resort Intercom equipment at your home.

Additionally, to reduce the possibility of congestion on the Resort Intercom system when reporting back to HIR Security, the PBC has arranged to upgrade the alarm receiving equipment to enable it to cope with about 3 times the amount of traffic.

We urge you to ensure that you and your property are protected by the installation of a UPS device, if you do not have a fixed public phone line.
