Bikes & Buggies
There has been an increasing number of incidents of seemingly underage young people driving golf buggies on the Resort roads. The laws that are in force on the public road system also apply throughout Hope Island Resort and the Police can and do request access to the Resort from time to time.

The laws that apply to the operation of Golf Buggies are quite clear:
  • The vehicle must have a current registration clearly displayed
  • The driver of the vehicle must be in possession of a current Driver’s Licence
  • The vehicle must not be driven on or across the public road system outside of the resort, apart from the Marina Shopping Village and the Hope Island Central shopping precinct
  • All normal drink driving laws apply

Please be aware that an unregistered vehicle, or one driven by an unlicensed driver, is not covered by third party insurance.

No matter how tempting it might be to allow unlicensed drivers to use a Golf Buggy on our relatively sheltered roads, quite simply, IT IS AGAINST THE LAW.

In similar vein, we urge cyclists of all ages to wear suitable helmets. Helmets are required by law and again, the roads in the Resort are no exception. It goes without saying that helmets have been proven to give some protection in the case of an accident. No helmet means no protection.

Please be aware that HIR Security staff have been asked by the Police to seek the co-operation of anyone not complying with these requirements of the law. We hope that owners and residents will support them in their efforts.
