New Gate Access Control Systems
The access control system throughout Hope Island Resort (HIR) uses technology developed in the 1980s and was introduced into the Resort in the early 1990s. The system has become obsolete and the manufacturer can no longer supply spare parts and there are no alternative sources of supply. Under these circumstances, any breakdown can become a major problem and it is essential that the existing system be replaced.
Approval to deploy the new system throughout HIR was given at a General Meeting of the PBC, following consideration of the proposal at General Meetings of every Residential Body Corporate.
Each Lot Owner will be provided with 2 swipe cards free of charge, consistent with the practice followed since the first homes were built at HIR. Additional swipe cards are available at a cost of $10 each. "Clickers" are available at a cost of $30 each. Any clickers purchased after 1 July 2010 will be replaced free of charge.
The unnecessary proliferation of gate entry devices may have an adverse effect on the security of the Resort and owners are asked to distribute and manage the cards and clickers carefully. Occasional visitors and tradespeople can gain access via the gate-to-residence intercom or by contacting Security from the gate. In the latter case, prior advice to Security about your visitors will speed the entry process and help the traffic flow.
The new system offers many advantages to Residents and Owners, most of which will enhance security:
· Swipe cards and remotes are individually identified and recorded by the central computer each time they activate the gates
· Swipe cards and remotes can be programmed to allow access only for a prescribed period of time or during pre-determined hours
· Swipe cards and remotes can be cancelled from the system in the event that they are stolen or lost
· The cost of swipe cards and remotes is less than one quarter the cost of the current devices.
Deployment across the Resort is now proceeding on a staged basis, precinct by precinct, and in the early part of December, gates throughout HIR should be cut-over to the new system and the old system decommissioned.
