In 1972 at the age of 24 he was appointed head wine-maker at Lindemans. In 1982 he was chief wine-maker at Rosemount. In 2001 Southcorp bought out Rosemount and he was made head wine-maker for the whole Southcorp group. In 2003, he left Southcorp for his vineyard in Orange where he continued to make wines. He twice won the coveted title of Wine-Maker of the year at the London International Wine & Spirits Awards - in the years 1986 and 2000. In 1997 his Rosemount Orange Vineyard Chardonnay, made at his own vineyard, won the 1999 Prix d'Excellence at Vin Expo in Bordeaux and in 1999 he won Australian Wine-Maker of the year.
