Saltwater Creek Park Linkage

Earlier postings to the HIR News website have informed residents about representations made by the PBC and PTBC to the Mayor and to Councillor Pforr, about the Saltwater Creek Park Linkage (see posting on 8 March 2012).

Recently Hugh Beutel, Strata Manager to the PBC and PTBC, took Eddy Sarroff, a long-time GCCC Councillor and a current Mayoral Candidate, on a tour of inspection of the site.

Mr Sarroff sent the e-mail reproduced below following his visit:

Subject: Re: Hope Island Resort

Hi Hugh,
Thank you for meeting with me today & for taking me for an inspection of the proposed pathway area. This proposal does not have my support & I intend to oppose any moves to acquire the privately owned land to create a public pathway. It is of great concern that the proposed pathway is on flood prone land & I noted during the inspection numerous constraints associated with this proposal. I feel that the residents may be able to mount a legal challenge to this proposal, which could incur substantial costs to the city over and above the unfunded cost which will also make this project prohibitive. It is my intention if I am elected as mayor of the city to scrap this project & to give residents peace of mind that there will not be any intrusion into their residential amenity.

I would appreciate it if you could pass this onto the concerned residents & thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.

Regards,
Eddy Sarroff

The Allconnex sewerage system is back in normal operation and all pathways throughout the Resort have been reopened

Heavy Rain - Resort Bulletin

Please note the following:
  • Due to Allconnex reaching capacity on the main sewerage line, people within the Resort will not be able to flush toilets. This situation is currently affecting Gracemere and Magnolia and unless Allconnect rectify the matter it will eventually start to effect other areas. Our pump stations and sewerage system are working effectively. The contact for Allconnex is 1300 000 928 if Residents wish to take the matter up further with Allconnex directly. We will continue to chase up Allconnex for updates on the matter and we will keep you informed as the situation changes.
Residents might like to be aware that:
  • the water is currently over the revetment walls and a high tide of 1.7 m is expected locally around 11:20 am.
  • All underpasses in the Resort have also been shut down and closed off.
  • The back road that services the GC landscape compound has also been closed off.
